Cities are not for cars.
Well, OK, they sort of are — with their wide, gridded streets and highways, crosswalks for pedestrians, and intermittent sidewalks. But it doesn’t have to be this way. With London touting a plan to build skyways for bikes, it’s worth thinking about the ways cities could rebuild parts of themselves not for cars, but for people on foot or on pedals.
On this week’s Observation Deck, I’m contemplating the car-free metropolises of the future.
