The long worldwide nightmare that has been nerdom’s anticipation of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is almost over, and that’s pretty much all there is to learn in the new TV spot for the film.
Beginning with a look through Bilbo Baggins’ empty home, the clip cuts to Gandalf telling the hobbit, “The world is not in your books and maps, it’s out there.” This is immediately followed by a bunch of quick cuts of adventure and stuff, and then the teaser ends.
Chances are there won’t be many more promo reels for the first installment of Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy until closer to the initial movie’s release, so we’ll take what we can get. But just because this new teaser is short doesn’t mean there isn’t other exciting news from the Shire. Jackson revealed the runtime of the movie in a story that ran on Empire’s website Wednesday, saying the upcoming film “is about 2 hours 40 minutes at the moment.” And news broke Saturday that Comedy Central “pundit” Stephen Colbert would be getting a cameo in the trilogy.
Hey, some news is better than no news. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters Dec. 14 and, as the above trailer notes, tickets go on sale Nov. 7.
