Self-described “home haunter” Victor Bariteau started out with a lone scarecrow in his front yard 18 years ago and just couldn’t stop making monsters. Since then, the mild-mannered New Englander has accumulated an army of DIY ghouls, spiders and pumpkin-headed freaks whose mission is to scare the hell out of anyone visiting his Ghoulie Manor.
As seen in the exclusive clip from Michael Paul Stephenson‘s new documentary The American Scream, Bariteau works his magic from a basement workshop as his daughter fetches eyeballs for a monster-in-progress.
“There are people who put those pumpkins out there…. I wouldn’t call them home haunters,” says Bariteau. “A home haunter is just somebody willing to go that extra mile.” The movie also profiles two other families who give their houses extreme haunted makeovers every October.
The American Scream premieres on Chiller Sunday at 8 p.m./7 Central. The documentary will screen in select theaters through November, and is also available through Tugg, a platform that lets movie fans whip up their own theater screenings.
